Our Pastors

The Rector - Father Timothy L'Estrange

Our current Parish Priest (Rector) comes from a family of clergymen and missionaries. He himself grew up in Kent as an active lay member of his church there. He trained for ordination in London and Oxford and was ordained in 1993. After serving as a Youth Pastor in north Suffolk for three years, he moved to Horsham in West Sussex to serve as Domestic Chaplain to the local Bishop there - again for a three year stint. He then served for ten years as the Rector of a group of country churches in the rural Adur Valley on the south coast of England. He moved to north London in the summer of 2008 and began his ministry as our Rector in October 2008. He is married to Elizabeth, who works as a Pharmacy Dispenser, distributing drugs, and regulating drug supplies to nursing homes. His household also includes Christopher (his Private Secretary), Darwin (a German Shepherd Dog), and a number of cavies (guinea pigs). He is a registered breeder of cavies, and also has long-term interests in narrow-gauge railways, and world travel - to date he has visited 47 countries or autonomous regions. His other interests include the St John Ambulance Brigade, Freemasonry, and history. As Rector, Father Timothy is our senior pastor, Chairman of our Church Council, and legally responsible for the 'cure of souls' of our parish - that is the spiritual well-being of everyone living in our parish, whether they are church-goers or not.

Toddlers' Pastor - Charlie Fisher
Charlie is a Commissioned Lay Minister (CLM) of the Diocese of London, and worships at St Mary's with his wife, and their two daughters. The family are active supporters of our church school, and Charlie is a leading member of our Childrens' Group. He is the worship leader at the bi-monthly Sunday-afternoon "Toddlers' Service". His signature worship song is "If I were a wiggly worm, I'd thank the Lord...."! Toddlers' Worship, led by Charlie, is always a very happy time in our church.

Kingsdowne Pastor - Maureen Olley
Maureen is best known in our church fellowship for her very high profile work as co-ordinator of the Flower Arrangers' Guild. The flowers are seen week by week, and aid our worship. However, she also has a more 'hidden' ministry as the Kingsdowne Pastoral Link. In this role she makes frequent and regular visits to Kingsdowne to visit the residents and to keep the congregation there in touch with the church. She also supports the Rector in the provision of worship at Kingsdowne every month.

Worship Leader - Christopher Golds
Christopher is a regular worship leader and also our Verger, with an important ministry of welcome. He often leads worship at our Sunday family services. Christopher comes from a personal background of a Christian family and upbringing and from a professional background in creative media. He has worked with the creative media in education and also in practical roles including film making and advertising. He enjoys working on major projects, including church festivals.

Pastoral Team - BSG
The Baptism Support Group (BSG) is led by Debbie Coles (pictured), and has about half a dozen members. Their ministry has a public face in church during baptism when they hand over the baptismal candle and read the Commission, but the member of the team assigned as the 'pastoral link' to the baptism will already have carried out at least one pastoral visit before the baptism has taken place, and will visit the family again after the baptism, to ensure that a strong link is made with the wider church family.

Pastoral Team - LEM
The Lay Eucharistic Ministers (LEM) are a team of volunteers each of whom is commissioned by the Bishop to carry out their ministry. They assist with the distribution of Communion in church, and also take the 'reserved sacrament' (parts of the consecrated elements of bread and wine, specially kept in church for this purpose) to members of the church who are sick or housebound, thus enabling them (in their own homes) to join in and be part of the church's celebration of the Holy Communion - the Eucharist.
