Church House is essentially a pair of old cottages which have been converted into a single dwelling, and subseque ntly had the first floor removed, leaving one large open space within the four outer walls of what was once a pair of homes. This building (with its three small extensions - a porch, a kitchen, and a shower block) forms our church hall. Not only is the building essential for our own work with children and young people, providing a base for their work, but is is also a useful social centre for church activities. More than that, we are able to let the building to other community groups for a token rental, and thus provide a vital community service, which also gives us pastoral contacts within the wider community. This is an important ministry, through which all sorts of initial contacts can arise. The building is the headquarters of several of our own church groups, and also of the local Monken Hadley Cricket Club. A large team of volunteers supplemented the professionals working on the project, and helped to keep down the cost of renovation following serious flood damage. The building now looks absolutely splendid, and has been painted in blue and white, the colours of our patron saint, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Regular bookings have now resumed. |
